I know that some of the SRJV exp. boards, namely HIP HOP and Techno as well as World Asia, contain phrases and Loops that can be synced to midi clock on XP80 and JV2080. Can this be done on a JV1080 as well? And if so,How? Also, I got some boards second hand, without the paper work, downloaded the patch lists from Roland, but no other info. Are the numbers preceding the name of the loops on the Hip Hop card the BPM's?

Hello, yes the tempo does precede some of the patch names on the hip hop card. Not that it's much use.

I'll send on a scanned copy of the Hip hop doco in time. I've spoken to Roland UK, a very helpful bunch of people, and I've been reliably informed that Yes you can tempo sync to loops to an external clock.

Perhaps you need to consult the JV1080 manual to work out how to sync the patches.
One thing to bare in mind is that you need to sync all the patch parts (1-4).

Good news, I hope.

Actually, you can't do this on the JV1080 or XP50. This feature was implemented on the Xp60/80 and JV2080. The XP50/JV1080 can phrase loop patches with LFO routings (like S&H Pad) to the clock, but audio loops like those on the Hip-Hop board cannot be adjusted since their speed is not controlled by the LFO.

aagggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh, yes it does fail to mention the JV1080 in the guide to the Hip Hop Board.

I'm sorry, I did get it straight from the horses mouth at Roland UK though.

It's that familiar syncing feeling.

What you can do though is detune the loop. After all, that's all it's really doing in the XP80 anyway. Just push a key that is closest to the speed of the song, and start detuning it up or down until you get it dead on with the clock. It does work. I used to do it on the XP80 until I learned how to sync it.

Yes, Thank you, that's what I've been doing. The loops that have a numeric display at the beginning do play pretty precisely at that tempo on the C3 key. Some of the loops change speed and pitch on adjacent keys and some are the same across the entire keyboard. I also use a Hip Hop card in my QS6.1 and wish Alesis had done a better job of looping and documenting tempos. Even after you find the tempo the loops get off after a measure or two so constant re-triggering is necessary. This is all quite odd since I don't even do hip hop music and have always programmed my own drum parts. But I've found these loops really easy to use, take less data space and they add a different flavor to my non-hop music. Thanks for your input. Peace!
